Birdsong At Morning Pre-Save “Astronomy” Available Oct. 20th

Astronomy - the study of celestial bodies and the infinite space between us. This song began as an exercise in crafting a pop song without using standard pop tropes like big drums, synths, and screaming guitars. The lyric emerged from a casual observation about parallel lines and the happenstance of cosmic chaos. To wit – no matter the random caprice of science and nature, sometimes two pathways will simply never intersect. The metaphor extends to our common experience of unreachable distance and missed connections. The big “what if?” followed by the “how come?”.

In the early days of Birdsong At Morning, we never thought much about singles; we were focused on just getting the music out to the world. But as part of the ongoing re-issue project, I thought we might take advantage of such scientific breakthroughs as “streaming” and “pre-saves.” When I was a schoolboy, I was taught that Pluto was the planet furthest from the sun. I’ve heard rumor that current scientific thought is that Pluto isn’t a planet at all. Well, if science gets to change its mind, so can we. When is a song a single, or just a lowly album deep cut?
