"Can't Help Myself" was always conceived as a string-driven slice of chamber pop. Which meant that we rarely (never?) performed it as we didn’t travel with a string octet in our back pocket. I suppose we could have worked out an alternative approach, but as the song (sort of) says, “I (couldn’t) help myself, and I (didn’t) want to.”

Now that the eclipse frenzy has died down, let’s celebrate a little light - the remixed/remastered version of Birdsong At Morning’s Lumens. New stereo and 5.1 surround mixes coming out on Friday, May 10.

Don’t let the moody artwork fool you, the music contained in Birdsong At Morning’s third EP, Vigil, is darker, slower, quieter than the cover implies. It’s also Alan’s favorite of the first four releases. Perhaps not appropriate for all settings and times, but when in the mood for a good cry, or at least an extended stare into the abyss, this mini-album is an excellent accompanying soundtrack….

“Every memory ends with a question mark.” Alan’s meditation on memory, guilt, and mortality, “Numbered Days” newly remixed and available today on all streaming platforms. Who could resist a song with such a joyful description…?
